About this walk

This is the trail the paired photographs were built for. Long stretches of the route are now open grass where streets used to be.

It is a quiet walk, and deliberately so — a lot of people lived here until recently.

The route

  1. Ōtākaro / Avon River

The awa as food source, ornament and open ground.

    14 min audio

  2. The residential red zone

Street lines under grass, with the houses pinned back on.

  3. The springs

Why the flats were worth living on in the first place.
